Our articles jog many memories and some of our readers are prompted to share theirs with us. Here is a recent letter from Jeannie Allan (Moss). "I started school in 1929, in grade 1 at Dundarave School at the top of 27th Street. Miss Jones and Miss Naim both helped many very young, nervous, little people become used to being away from the security of home and parents for 5 days a week. I still have class pictures and report cards of those days, they bring back many happy memories. From Dundarave School we went to Pauline Johnson where Miss Crewson and Mr Brown took over the daunting task of our education. Then on to Inglewood High School -1 had made it! From 1939 on these were unsettling days for many of us. However things carried on. May Day, Your Letters (Contd.) May Queens, Sport Days, InterSchoolSports and Clubs . Writing this today I thought I'd like to mention teachers I had that made a lasting impression on me. Mr Edgar - Socials Study - did the dates and battles ever match? Miss Maycock - Latin - helped me in a future nursing career. Miss Paradis - a great French teacher - wish I had studied it harder. Mr Lane - Art -despaired of our future in the art world. Mrs Reid -Commercial - turned out many a fine secretary. Hilda Wilson - Music - made us all sound like angels in the Christmas choir. Clara Wilson - our gym teacher. Mr Gillespie - boys gym teacher. Mr L G. Brooks - English - gave me an appreciation of poetry and literature. Mr Kershaw - Maths - he even made me like maths. Mr Wright - Science - always willing to help. Mr Pellman Mr Inkster and Mr Sinclair. Miss Elliott - school nurse -mended our bruises, and Mr Mitchell our principal. If inadvertantly I have left someone out, please forgive me, I have had children and now grandchildren in school. Hopefully they in the future will look back on their school days and their teachers with the feeling of gratitude to them all that I have." Thank you, Jeannie, for sharing memories of your school days. It is good to look back on happy times.
