EXECUTIVE REPORT: By: Helen Davies You likely remember the Community Day theme this year was "Wet & Wild". Well, it seems that the theme stayed with us well into August. While the weather did not co-operate to the "degree" many of us would have liked, I am confident that none of you let a little rain interrupt your plans to enjoy the summer. Board Directors, too, managed to fit in a little R & R, but are now ready to get back to the task at hand, promoting West Vancouver heritage. I am very sad to report, however, that Waring Pentland will not be returning to the Board this fall. A long-time Director, Waring has decided to step down from the Historical Society Board for health reasons. Waring has over the years given generously of his time and made a valued contribution to the West Vancouver Historical Society. In addition to his active participation as a Director, he also served as Publisher of "History-Onics". Waring will be missed, but I am pleased to say he will continue to be an active member of the Society, presently volunteering in the West Vancouver Archives. Lori Pentland too, who has spent many hours over the years making sure the Gift Shop accounts are in order, is also stepping down from her position. On behalf of the Board, I want to express our sincere appreciation for all her work. The Directors extend their best wishes to both Lori and Waring as they embark on new adventures and thank them for making a difference! Recently Society Directors finalized a Letter of Understanding clarifying the role and responsibilities of the HoUybum Ski Camp Committee, a sub-committee of the West Vancouver Historical Society. As reported in previous issues of "History-Onics", committee members are working to develop an interpretive display which will document the history and heritage of the old ski site. The intent is to dismantle the old building, save as much of the original material as is possible, and incorporate it into the Hollybum Ski Camp Heritage Project. The committee Chair, Bob Tapp, is busy creating an inventory of local skiing memorabilia for possible future display. If you are interested in this project and would like to work with the committee, please contact Bob Tapp at 926-3748.
