Beginning with the days of summer cottagers, the exhibit examines the lives and works of artists who vacationed and lived in West Vancouver. These five decades were stimulating times for painters, sculptors and potters. The community was small and well connected, fostering a lively atmosphere in which the artistic and eccentric could thrive. Some of the artists featured in this exhibit include; Gertrude Lawson, Unity Bainbridge, Alaistair and Betty Bell, B.C. Binning and Gordon Smith. The story of these artists is as interesting and varied as their works. We invite you to join us for this glimpse into a rarely explored aspect of West Vancouver history. In order to make this project a success we need your help. Volunteers are needed to conduct interviews, type transcripts and help with editing and organisation. Who better to volunteer for this project, than a member of the West Vancouver Historical Society? If you are interested and have time to spare, please call Linda at 925-7295 for more information. Too shy to conduct interviews, but are interested in oral history? We have just the job for you! The West Vancouver Museum have approximately 80 t<^s of interviews that have already been conducted. We need some volunteers to help organise and index this existing collection. For more information and to arrange for training time, please call Linda at 925-7295. The Archives Our Archivist, Preben Mortensen, advises that the extracts from the Lawson Diaries (which appeared on page 3 in the June issue of "History-Onics") gave only a small taste of the many wonderfully descriptive Lawson family papers which are so carefully preserved in the Archives at Gertrude Lawson House. Both Gertrude and Elizabeth Lawson kept copious records of family and local events so, if you are interested in taking a trip back in time with them, please call the Archives at 925-7298, when arrangements can be made to set aside a date and time for browsing just for you!
