EXECUTIVE REPORT: Meet Your New Board of Directors By: Helen Davies I am pleased to report that the April Annual General Meeting was well attended, with over fifty people in the audience. This year we welcome two new Directors to the Society Board. Recently retired School Principal A1 Hasley is a West Vancouver resident and a member of the local Rotary Club. At the first board meeting, A1 was elected to the position of second vice-president. Also new to the Board is longtime West Van. resident Dave Barker, Vice Principal of the West Vancouver Senior Secondary School and also an active member of the Museum & Archives Community Education Committee. On behalf of the membership, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for agreeing to serve the Society. Returning to the board is Mia Bonettemaker who has graciously agreed to serve as Society Treasurer for a second year. Thanks Mia, we all appreciate your hard work as our official "bean coimter." In addition to publishing History-Onics, Anne Vernon will continue as Secretary, and keep track of the Directors at the Exectuive meetings. Past President, Ian Macdonald has also agreed to continue his work on the board, as has Tom Taylor, Gerry Kidd, Waring Pentland, Don Graham, and Bob Tapp. Director Laureen Jones returns too and will continue to organize Society special events, and serve as our "artist at large," producing her wonderful historical panels. Membership Chair, Joan Skipper, also returns this year to make sure everyone is paid up and in good standing. I look forward to serving again as your President and working cooperatively with this great group of people to make every effort to promote and preserve local history. Finally, a big thank you to all members for your continued support. Without your ongoing enthusiasm and interest, the Society would not be the success it is! Speaking of member support... thanks to Carolanne Reynolds and Faximum for donating heritage mugs to the Museum & Archives and our Society to help celebrate Heritage Week this past February A Note From the Editor: Our National Historic Site, Point Atkinson is well covered in this issue, sometimes these things just happen! Your Board, together with many others, (as outlined in Don Graham’s article on pages 4 &5) has, and will continue, to spend many hours developing a plan which should conserve this unique landscape, one which means much to West Vancouverites. We promise to keep you posted on our future progress.
