Also actively involved were local heritage groups, including, the West Vancouver Historical Society, the North Shore Heritage Committee, the North Shore Historical Society and the Deep Cove & Area Heritage Associatiem. The special event this year was the “North Shore Home & Garden Tour†which was co-sponsored by the three North Shore Heritage Commissions and the West Van. Florist & Garden Centre. The Homeowners were very co-operative and pleased to see such a good turn out. West Vancouver heritage events included a slide show and discussion of modem heritage architecture. Another popular display was the West Vancouver heritage booth, with volunteers from the Historical Society, Heritage Commission and North Shore Heritage Committee. Elaine Graham led a nature walk at Lighthouse Park and Don Graham conducted a tour of Point Atkinson lighthouse. There was also a naming ceremony of hut #2 at the Park. The Squamish name given to the hut is “SK’IWITSUT,†the First Nation name for Point Atkinson. The event was organized by the West Van. Parks and Recreation department, and the Squamish Elders presented songs and speeches about the history of the area. There were many other events across the North Shore and all in all the weekend was very successfiil. The weather co-operated too and the total attendance topped 800.
