EXECUTIVE REPORT: Gift Shop Christmas Sale By: Helen Davies, President The Historical Society runs a little gift shop in the Museum. Did you know that all the profits from the shop go to support the Museum & Archives? The store features local arts and crafts like pottery, jewellery and decorative art. There is also a wonderful selection of books on B.C. history. With Christmas fest approaching, I ^courage you to stop by the gift shop, as 1 am sure you will find something unique for that special person. Society member Lorie Pentland makes wonderful backpacks and her casserole covers are a particularly popular item. Laura Home creates beautiful decorative items and Susan Ledsome, featured in an earlier edition of History-onics, has a wide selection of colourful, hand painted pottery for sale. We also have a great selection of cards. Laureen Jones does a special Christmas edition of her lovely Gertrude Lawson House drawing, and local photographer Catherine Crouch captures the beauty of the North Shore in her cards. The sh(^ is stocked with a good selection of holiday gifts. There are hand quilted Christmas decorations and a great selection of stocking stufiers. A recent addition is a locally published book. Edited by Anne Tempelman-Kluit, A Klondike Christmas is a whimsical collection of stories, poetry and recipes. For example, a menu for an 1897 Christmas dinner notes that “guests are requested to bring their dishes and their robes.†Just in case you don’t know what to cook for Christmas dinner this year, there are recipes for bear steak, moose roast, and bannock. Adding even more interest to the book are the historical photographs and drawings - it’s a real “gold mine†of information about the Yukon in days gone by, and is sure to appeal to someone on your list. The gift shop stocks children’s books too. Children’s Christmas Stories, written by Kate Brookes, is a compilation of five holiday stories and has an accompanying audio cassette of Christmas songs. So if you want something a little different this year, why not drop by Gertmde Lawson House and see what “goodies†we have for you and yours. Remember - Society members get 10% off all their purchases!
