Things (our theme) took off and flew away with a great deal of enthusiasm! The outdoor activities provided endless fim for the kids, and the young at heart. The Parade was its usual attraction with the Bands and school banners. Our entry in the parade was Margaret Davies, mother of our President, Helen Davies, riding in a 1921 Model “T’ Ford Baggage Express, owned by Peter Cherry, well known West \hn heritage car buff. The driver was Tom Flyrm. We thank you all for your time and interest. As usual, our display was a major attraction. We really appreciate being assigned the Visual Arts Room at the Senior Centre, as the space is just right for our panels and TV. It is a great place to gather and reminisce about West \hncouver. An ^preciative and emphatic thank you for the helpers and docents who assisted us in putting on a Ckxxl Show. I Summer Outing, Saturday July 4,1998 Cont. from page 1 There are well maintained comfort stations at most of the scheduled stops. This tour will go ahead rain or shine. Don’t forget your camera! Several of our members are getting together following the tour for an early evening meal at one of two popular restaurants in the area; The Bridge House Restaurant and C^pilano Heights Chinese Restaurant. Everyone, member or not is welcome to join in. Those attending our Next General Meeting may register for the tour and the socializing; more info will be avilable at the meeting. Hollyburn Ski Camp Heritage Project Under the terms of the agreement between BC Parks and Cypress Bowl Recreations the old Hollyburn Ski Camp and a few of its auxilary cabins are to be restored, rebuilt, replicated to create a historic site. The intent is not to create a museum but more a place of memories - teen age romance, learning to ski, cooking on a wood stove, etc Through members Bob Tapp and Gordon Knight the We extend a warm welcome to all the new members. If you would like to be recognized, ask at the registration table at the next General Meeting and we will be happy to provide an identification tag for you. Below is a list of people who have joined since our last member list was published in April. Farideh Kechani Audrey Parsons Jim Turpin H.E. Williams Researchers Take Note, Continued from page 8 The Cash and Carry Meat Market next to Piggly Vfiggly sold stew beef for 25 cents for 2 lbs., had New Zealand butter for $1.23 for 3 pounds on special and gave away theatre tickets with every 50 cent purchase. The Billiard Hall had three tables "for your pleasure" and if your bad badt prevented you from playing a game, chiropractor Roberta Vass could assist you, if you could make it to her office on Marine Drive, near the Stratton Bakery. Unfortunately, because of the overall poor quality of newsprint, our copies of the West Vancouver News will not survive indefinitely. We store them as best we can and admonish researchers to handle them with extreme care. But no matter what we do, the acids in the newspapers are eating away at the paper, turning them increasingly yellow and brittle. But we do take a little solace in knowing that those original newspapers of yesteryear will last longer than the newspaper you read yesterday. A Request For Information At the last General Meeting, at least two individuals introduced themselves as having been associated with the bridge construction. Regrettably, in the excitement of the evening the Newsletter staff failed to obtain their names. We would appreciate heating from them or from anyone having this information. The video that we made of the presentation failed to pick up their names clearly enough to insure correct spelling. Phone Waring, 987-2810 WVHS is involved in securing artifacts, pictures, documents etc. of the OLD DAYS. Five Planning Meetings have been held hut no site action is plarmed until B.C. Parks gets a decision from the West \hncouver Municipality regarding sewers and water lines. West \^couver Municipal staff have advised West X^couver Council (May 24, 1998) that all consultants have not yet finalized their reports. Until this is settled complete plans for the site will be held in abeyance.
