Sponsors of this inviting weekend were the West Vancouver Historical Society, West Vancouver Museum & Archives, and the Heritage Advisory Commission. All joined together to present a very informative and exciting week of events. Exhibitions included a display at the West Vancouver Memorial Library, a photo display at Park Royal, an interesting Garden in Art exhibit at the Ferry Building, and a video presentation about the Silk Purse Centre. The Museum & Archives remained open on the Sunday so people could visit the Chapman Land Surv eying show, â€90 Years of Land Development in West Vancouver.†Other interesting events included the Squamish Nation Eagle Song Dancers, heritage dinners, a presentation on native plant beach side gardening, a portable sawmill display and family snowshoe adventure and barbecue. The Historical Society meeting w as changed to February 18th to coincide with the national event. The guest speaker was Doreen Armitage, well known author of Around the Sound. The evening w as well attended, with approximately 100 guests enjoying the presentation. Saturday Februarv' 21 was a special day, w ith the presentation of the â€1998 Heritage Achievement Awards.†Recognized for their heritage awareness and contributions were; Mary Chapman, Heinz Berger, the Chapman Land Surveying firm, and Karl Ricker. Congratulations to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make sure the week was a success. Many thanks to Murchies Tea & Coffee Ltd. for donating the delicious goodies and refreshments and to Faximum Software Inc., for the special mugs. Community Day - Saturday June 6,1998 The Community Day theme this year is "Wings & Things.†The hours are 10 am to 4 pm. Our DISPLAY will be in the Senior's Activity Centre, which is at the north-east comer of 21st street and Marine Dr. Our display will be in the Visual arts room. When you arrive at the north door, turn left at the lounge. There will be directional signs. The display w ill have some new and interesting panels and maybe even some "wings.†The PARADE leav es Ambleside at 10 am and arrives at 22nd street at about 12 noon. Our entry in the PARADE will be a 1921 Model â€T†Ford Baggage Express, driven by Tom Flynn. The car w as restored by Peter Cheny, owner of two heritage cars. We tmst the weatherman to be kind and give us a sunny day to enjoy the festivities and crafts and please don't "RAIN ON OUR PARADE!†We extend a warm welcome to all the new members. If you would like to be recognized, ask at the registration table at the next General Meeting and we will be happy to provide an identification tag for you. We are thinking of taking a bus tour of the Ca'^WaY\o WatershedTour in early July. It is a four hour trip that promises to be both fun and informative.
