April 1998 WEST VANCOUVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY Page 9 RECENT ACQUISITIONS By: Da\>id Wardle, Community Archivist West Vancouver SS5 Museum&Archives The Archives recently received a wonderful donation of family photographs from West Vancouver resident, Sally Bagshaw. These photographs are of the paternal and material sides of her family, the Andersons and the Carnworths. What makes these photographs so special is the way they capture the social and recreational activities of West Vancouver residents in the roaring twenties and dirty thirties. This donation consists of approximately 160 photographs, all black and whit, showing the Anderson and Camworth families enjoying their leisure time at their summer homes in Caulfeild and Bachelor Bay. The Anderson home was called "Nosredna" or Anderson backwards. Many of the shots include: teams of hikers making their way among the North Shore Mountains, summer homes along the West Vancouver waterfront out to Caulfeild and beyond and a very interesting photograph of what is probably one of the earliest water-skiers! Fran Hall, a volunteer in the archives, has completed the initial processing of the photographs and related material. The photographs will then be catalogued and made available to researchers. However, some identification of individuals and locations in these photographs is still needed, so if any members of the Historical Society have a good memory of the inhabitants of Caulfeild and the surrounding area, please phone me at 925-7298. Museum Courses The Museum & Archives is offering a variety of courses for adults, and children this spring. The following is only a small sample of what is available .
