Whether you explore the great outdoors or prefer a quiet evening at one of the local restaurants hosting heritage dinners^ you will find something of interest. The Museum & Archives kicks off celebrations Feb. 15 at the West Vancouver Senior Activity Centre at 2 pm with their popular and entertaining Antiques & Collectibles, The Identification and Care Show. So, dust off those family heirlooms or odd artifacts that have stumped you over the years and have an expert offer an opinion. Watch the North Shore News for sign up information and registration forms. As always, a highlight of the week \vill be the presentation of the West Vancouver Heritage Achievement Awards, presented to individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to the heritage of our community. Take note, in order to coincide with the National event, the Historical Society has changed its General Meeting date to February 18. You will find a schedule of Heritage Week events in the Museum & Archives insert included with this issue. NEXT GENERAL MEETING /tu Will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 1998 at 7pm in the Activity Room of the West Vancouver Senior Activity Centre, 695 21st Street, (entrance to parking off Fulton Avenue, between 21st & 22nd) FEATURE PRESENTATION ‘A Trip Around the Sound* North Shore author Doreen Armitage will be Guest Speaker at our February 18 meeting. Her recently published history of Howe Sound and Whistler is a colourful account of the first peoples, early European explorers, the miners and other newcomers who came to farm and log the Howe Sound valleys and slopes. Doreen Armitage's interest in Howe Sound was developed over 25 years of boating, hiking and exploring wilderness areas of the region. Her presentation will include slides and readings from her book Around the Sound, which has been highly acclaimed by reviewers such as Peter Newman and John Goodman.
