EXECUTIVE REPORT: By: Helen Davies Goodbyes & Hellos As many of you likely know, Board Director Janis Johnson has, for some time, managed the Museum Gift Shop. She always made sure there was a lovely variety of local arts and crafts, along with an interesting selection of books. But, as Janis will tell you, there are only so many hours in a day and she is so busy with a variety of interests, that, sadly, she has decided to step down as Gift Shop Manager. On behalf of the membership and the Directors I would like to thank you, Janis, for all your hard work and your enthusiasm in ensuring we have a gift shop to be proud of. We wish you all the best in your new adventures and look forward to seeing you in the shop, when you come in to do your weekly shift (hint, hint)! Kindly taking over from Janis is Laura Home. Laura lives on the North Shore and is active in the community, volunteering as a ski instmctor at Grouse in her "spare" time. She has experience in the small business world and, like Janis, has developed links in the local arts and crafts community. I am delighted to welcome Laura on board and wish her every success as she embarks on this new venture. Museum News Remember the slide show of Mildred Valley Thornton paintings at our last June meeting? Well the West Vancouver Museum is now exhibiting 14 of her paintings of Squamish Nation Ancestors, as well as many fascinating Squamish artifacts. Called “Kw’achmixwaylh - Showing of the Pictures,†the display is well worth a visit. The Gift Shop, which has been re-vamped specially for this exhibit, has excellent First Nation carvings and jewellery for sale. Prices are very reasonable and current members get a 10% discount! The Museum needs a volunteer with a Class 4 license to drive a minibus (seats 20) for an outing in late April. This overnight, heritage tour to Yale, BC, is scheduled for April 24-25. The driver will have an opportunity to participate in the trip free of charge, expenses including meals and accommodation will be paid for by the Museum. This should be a very interesting outing, as it includes a float trip on the Fraser River, an evening storytelling performance, & guided tours of the town's historic church and museum. Interested in volunteering or joining the tour? Call Linda at 925-7297.
