HISTORY-ONICS ^-If- iw- n M j NOV 21 1997 U VOL. 15 N0.5 NOVEMBER 1997 THE NEWSLETTER OF THE WEST VANCOUVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY Deborah Tuyttens appointed West Van Museum Curator Popular former Museum Assistant confirmed as new Museum Curator The West Vancouver Parks & Recreation Department appointment meets strong approval from the Society Board of Directors and members who recommended that Deborah’s temporary acting position as Curator be made permanent. Deborah joined the Museum late in 1994 as Assistant Curator and has been fully involved in all museum functions. She had a major role in organizing the successfiil North Shore wide exhibit FIRE! Her appointment comes as the next Museum exhibit is about to open. Chapman Land Surveying - November 18. Organizing this exhibit as well as fulfilling the duties of Curator have presented a real challenge of time and effort. We are pleased to report that Deborah is taking it all in stride and continues to display the capable composure that has won the support of all those working with her. WVM&A Deborah Tuyttens, Museum Curator West Vancouver Museum Opens a New Exhibit Chapman Land Surveying: 90 Years of Land Development Our longest standing Corporate member. Chapman Land Surveying Ltd., partners the Museum in offering this latest exhibit which will have opened November 18. This family business has been a part of the development of West Vancouver from its earliest beginnings and has grown apace with the community. This exhibit includes examples of early land surveys for logging companies and land development agencies, including the British Pacific Properties. It highlights the changes in tools and technology of the surveying industry and features many of the original surveying instruments used by the company in these deloping years. The Next General Meeting of the West Vancouver Historical Society Thorsen Residence, 1950 - Duncan McNab, Arch. FEATURE PRESENTATION Modern West Van Heritage Buildings Joel Lawson, an Assistant Planner at the West Vancouver Municipal Hall, will speak at our upcoming meeting about modem West Vancouver heritage buildings. He will show slides of many of the buildings featured in the West Vancouver Survey of Significant Architecture : 1945-1975, and talk about the development of the West Coast Style in our community. Come and learn about modem architecture and help celebrate West Vancouver's proud architectural heritage. I am sure that it will be an informative and entertaining session.
