Mountain Oldtimers’ Reunion, 1997 lola Knight The 5th Atmual Reunion for all those who enjoyed fim on our local mountains, Hollybum, Grouse and Seymour, was held ^on Wednesday, August 20th, at the Day Lodge on Mt Seymour. It was hosted by Mt. Seymour Resorts, with Alex Douglas the organizer, assisted by Naomi McGitmis from Hollybum. This year's attendance was over 200, continuing to increase each year. Inside the lodge, excellent displays had been mounted; Hollybum ski racing cups, newspaper clippings; similarly Grouse with its Kandahar Cup and Seymour Mt. with its “new†highway. In addition. West Vancouver Museum & Archives had a comer. Karl Ricker was busy at another table collecting new information to add to his excellent volumes on the history of all the cabins on Hollybum. Each cabin has its page - with a recent photograph in which KarTs dog, Skoki, is the figure; and information pertaining to the cabin; date constmcted, builder, owners, and present state. Lastly, there was a table for “Save First Lake Lodge†-headed by Bob Tapp and assisted by Gordon Knight. Their mandate is to put together a committee devoted to the preservation and restoration of this venerable lodge, built on the shores of Fust Lake on Hollybum in 1926 from lumber recycled from the James Nasmyth lumber mill and flume further down the mountain. Over twenty oldtimers indicated a desire to help with this project. Delicious refreshments were available and although it threatened to shower, the “big picture†of all those present was taken at 3 pm. Things wrapped up at 4:30 pm with the echoes from dl of “See you next year!†The Archives Library Bookshelf For some time, the Archives have been accumulating a limited number of books relevant to West Vancouver's heritage that are available on loan to Society members. Some of these are duplicates of archival items and some, while possibly not archival, are of general historical interest. These volumes are donations and are greatly appreciated. Many of the donations are archival and are available for in house research, but are not available for circulation. David Wardle has advised us that he is continually looking for general histories of B.C. He is particularly anxious to acquire A History of British Columbia, by Margaret Ormsby and hopefully, the (Canadian Encyclopedia. Good Luck David!
