EXECUTIVE REPORT SUMMER ACTIVITIES By: Helen Davies, President As I write this report, summer has finally decided to grace our shores, and while I have taken some time to enjoy the “lazy, hazy days of summer”, I have also been busy at the Historical Society, as many exciting things have been happening throughout the summer months. In July fellow Director Tom Taylor and I represented the Historical Society on the panel organized to hire a new Museum Education Coordinator. We are delighted to welcome West Vancouver resident, Cheryl Nobles, to the Museum and wish her all the best in her new position as Education Coordinator. This is an exciting and challenging time for the Museum & Archives and I am confident that, with the ongoing support of Historical Society members. West Vancouver residents and dedicated staff, it will continue to be an important, well appreciated community facility. In preparation for the North Shore Heritage Weekend, a Heritage Commission subcommittee, chaired by Peter Hall, has been busy during the summer. Society members Alan Johnstone, Laureen Jones and I, together with committee members from other organizations on the North Shore, met often to plan and organize the many interesting events on the program. This year's North Shore Heritage Weekend, September 19 to 21, promises to be a lot of fun. Be sure you don't miss it. A TRIBUTE TO LAUREEN JONES Laureen is a longtime member of the Historical Society who, like many other unsung heroes of the Society, volunteers many hours to our organization. Her wonderfully informative and professionally produced panels are very popular with the public, bringing back many fond memories for longtime West Vancouver residents, as well as educating new residents about the history of our community. Laureen is one of many Society members who contribute considerable time and energy to promoting West Vancouver heritage. Laureen also arranges our exciting summer outings and, along with Joan Skipper, plans and organizes our Christmas parties. I want to take this opportunity to thank you Laureen for all your hard work and, on behalf of all members, say how much we enjoy and appreciate these events and the displays that you organize for our meetings and special activities. Finally, I want to say a special thank you to all the members of the Society who have dedicated so much time and effort to the Historical Society. 1 hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and that you return, well-rested and eager, to attend the Historical Society events planned for the coming months. 1 look forward to seeing and hearing from you this fall.
