Membership Report By: Joan Skipper New Members â€" Since November 1996 SPECIAL EVENTS ACTIVITIES Heritage Week â€" February 18-23 Mayor Pat Boname officially opened the Ferry Building exhibit at 8 pm on Tuesday, February 18th. She was impressed with the large turnout and the size and quality of the display. The theme was “A History of the Ferry Building’’. The attractive and well received display included the Historical Society picture panels depicting the ferries, the ferry building and transportation in general, as well as paintings of the ferry fleet by artist Charles Baker. Included also were paintings by Fred Hollingsworth, drawings by Sentinel Secondary School students, and a presentation by Westcott Elementary School youngsters, whose captivating sketches were displayed in the form of an attractive quilt. A popular historical display by Bas Collins included photos and stories, as well as interesting artifacts and memorabilia representing the early days of West Vancouver. The exhibit was a great success, proving a great deal of interest to long time residents of West Vancouver, as well as enlightenment to newcomers. Helen Davies arranged a very attractive exhibit promoting the activities and ventures of the Museum & Archives at the West Vancouver Memorial Library . This table display included new books, brochures depicting forestry walks, newsletters and other information concerning our local heritage and the numerous events taking place during Heritage Week. Many regular library users paused to absorb the information and the handouts. Two Heritage Walking Tours took place on Saturday; Helen Davies took her group to Upper Ambleside Residential area, while Peter Hall led his group to Lower Ambleside Conuner-cial area. Attendance at both was good, though the residential area was more popular. (However, we didn’t count the blisters). Congratulations are in order for both Kay Meek and Rupert Harrison on receiving Heritage Achievement Awards.
