HERITAGE RECEPTION & AWARDS Saturday, February 22,1997 2 - 4pm From the ^ Reported By: Ian Macdonald PIONEER SKIERS REUNION First Lake Picnic Area, Hollybum Mountain For the third year in a row the weatherman cooperated and the day was glorious for the Sept. 25th gathering of pioneer skiers at First Lake on Hollybum Mountain. It’s amazing to see nearly two hundred people in their 60’s, 70’s and, 80’s (there was some reluctance to admit being 90) having such a good day on the mountain. The reminiscing and story-telling goes on non-stop it seems. I highly recommend this annual event to anyone who ever hiked, took the chair lift or rode the halftrack up Hollybum in the early days. On leaving the picnic my wife and I made the short drive to the main ski area parking lot and did the easy walk into Yew Lake. This serene mountain lake is tucked between gentle slopes covered in sub-alpine conifers and shmbs which were just starting to show autunm colours. Beyond the lake, looking toward Howe Sound, is an open meadow and slightly above is a loop trail through a patch of old growth. The walk took us a leisurely forty minutes and believe it or not the entire trail is wheelchair accessible. We couldn’t help but think how lucky we on the North Shore are to have such beauty so close to home. west Vancouver Taking Care of Your Family Treasures â€" With Winter Workshops at the Museum & Archives PSS9 Textiles & Objects Susan Sirovyak, Collections Coordinator at the West Vancouver Museum & Archives, will lead this workshop.
