SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTRE CONNECTION Last Sp^g I was invited to a think tank at Gleneagles Golf Course.Over forty people were gathered there to help the Parks and Recreation Department plan expansion of recreation facilities in West Vancouver. During the two days of meetings I was approached not once, but three times, by people from the Senior Activity Centre who asked why the Historical Society was not active at the Centre. “There would be a lot of interestâ€â€"“ perhaps you could put on programs and talks â€â€"“ you could put up displays and photo-panels â€â€" and so on. To say the least they piqued my interest. Following up I went to Society directors with a few ideas, got their enthusiastic support, and called the Senior Activity Centre. After a couple of meetings we agreed there were definite possibilities and as a result several steps have been taken. We will hold our public meetings there in future. The large room at the Centre is very suitable and the convenient location will make it easier for many people to attend. We have agreed to put on four or five daytime sessions a year for the Centre. The first will be October 10th. at 1 pm to introduce ourselves to interested seniors, describe our beginnings, our role in the Ferry Building and Gertrude Lawson House and our many other activities and interests. Also, though wall space is in demand, we plan a revolving display of our historical photo-panels and other items. This is an exciting step for our Society to take. The Senior Activity Centre has an unbelievable thirty-six hundred members. If we truly believe our history and our pioneers are part of the fibre and culture of our community, what a golden opportunity we have to spread the word.
