SPRING 96 WEST VANCOUVER MUSEUM & ARCHIVES EXHIBITIONS Closes February 24 Arts & Heritage The culmination of three months exploration into aspects of art and heritage, this exhibition features the work of Sentinel Secondary and Chartwell Elementary students. Using the historic Gertrude Lawson House, students worked with artists/architects Carole Arnston and Fred Hollingsworth to create drawings, watercolours and sculptures that highlight West Van heritage. EXHIBITIONS Closes February 24 Cannery Days: A Gathering of Great Northern Memories Cannery Days features the salmon canning history of BC focusing on West Vancouver's own Great Northern and Eagle Cliff canneries. Join us for a look at the history of the canneries and the lives of the Japanese, First Nations, and European families who made up the cannery community. Plans to continue gathering information on the canneries are in the works. If you know something about either Great Northern or Eagle Cliff canneries please call us. Opens March 12 West Vancouver COLLECTS! From personal momentos and valued pieces to unique curiosities, this exhibition features selections from the Museum’s founding collections, and personal collections from the community. West Vancouver collectors and collections will join the Museum’s historic school collection, superb early photography equipment collection, and Lawson family materials in a show that celebrates the passion of collecting! Why do we collect and how do we decide what to acquire? What is this passion that drives people to accumulate, assemble, organize and exhibit? Do you collect? We’d like to know about it. Add information on your favourite collection to those gathered for the exhibit, and perhaps we’ll select your collection for special ‘collecting’ events around the community this summer.
