By: Ejfie Sutherland The first reunion that I remember was held sometime in the 60’s at the Gai Paris on the occasion of Oscar Pearson returning to his native Sweden. There were skiers from all three mountains at that event which was probably the largest group that I can remember, about 600 people altogether. I took care of the registration list for that one and maintained the list for some time until I finally got tired and dumped it on Marge Mathews. Marge arranged several get togethers which were always well attended; the last one I remember was held at the Stanley Park Pavilion. They were always a big occasion and the dancing went on until the early hours, with David Mathews ably handling the MC duties. Marge in turn handed on the mailing lists to Naomi Macinnes who arranged the first of the mountain side reunions 3 years ago and has organized one annually since then. There were approximately 200 out last year and I expect there may be more this year, weather pennitting. There is no formal organization to the group although a mailing list has been maintained over the years. Mailing costs and others associated with the reunion have been adequately covered by generous donations from those taking part. Access is reasonable for anyone by taking the Cypress Bowl road to the parking area under the Hydro transmission lines. It is about a 10 minute, comfortable hike along the service road from there into the ski camp. There will be several 4 wheel drive vehicles at the parking lot and anybody not able to manage the hike can hitch a ride. Be sure to bring a lunch and something to sit on. For more information see the next column.
