West Van Hi Grads, '48, '49 & '50 Editor's Note: The following comments by Tom Taylor, Chairman of the WVHS 'Grand Reunion 91illustrate well the reasons for our Society's interest in school reunions. We hope that 'The Reunion Scene' will become a regular feature of our Newsletter and that we will have the opportunity to promote West Van School Reunions whenever possible. The Historical Society connects us with our past and with each other. Sometimes it semns impossible to know where the first function ends and the second begins. Sdiool reunions, e^>ecially when done three or four decades after graduation, combine both. History-onics will gladly publish information about West Vancouver school reunions, past or present In May of 1991 the WVHS graduating classes of 1948-50 had a three day reunion which could well have been an historical event in itself. One of the great successes of the reunion was that it produced several *spin-offs*. In addition to the inscribed park bench **Reunion 91’* gave the community (13th & Marine Drive), its members also initiated and funded ’’the Kathleen Kermode Memorial Scholarshipâ€. As at May 15, 1995, this fund showed a balance only pennies shy of $10,(XX). What has been very important to the West Vancouver Historical Society is that the reunion members also showed great intoest in joining and participating in it. One of the members is our president; another is our desktop publisher of this newsletter, while two other members regularly help to assemble and mail. Yet another is a mainstay on the general meeting transportation committee. A Sidney member has provided inestimable help with our newsletter graphics. Another cemtributed a vast array of items to the 1992 rummage sale, which added about $6,000 to the GLH furniture fund. Still anodier smiously thought of commuting to West Vancouver from Qualicum to continue t^dng minutes of monthly Society Board meetings. We’ve recently learned that the West Van High 1945 graduating class is planning a fall get-together. As there are members of that group who belong to the West Vancouver Historical Society, we would encourage them to keep us iq) to date on their reunion plans, which we could then promote through the Newsletter. The answer to the question about ulterior motives is †Yes, we do want to inaease our membership in the Society, and yes, we do want to increase participation in it†It’s obvious who benefits. ly HISTORY-ONICS ...
