WEST VANCOUVER MEMORIAL LIBRARY - ONICS VOL. 13 NO. 3 MAY 1995 THE NEWSLETTER OF THE WEST VANCOUVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Society Plans a Royal Hudson Tour to Squamish Wednesday, June 14 chosen by the West Vancouver Historical Society for an Excursion Trip Arrangements have been made for a special rail car to take Society members and friends on this special trip to celebrate the end of a very busy season. Book ahead to be sure not to miss this entertaining trip that will include 2 hours in beautiful downtown Squamish. The scheduled departure is from the BCR terminal at the foot of Pemberton at 10 AM with a 2 hour stop over in Squamish and a return to the North Van terminal by 4 PM. The cost of this all day excursion is only $28. FEATURE PRESENTATION Historian Robin Inglis to speak on Defining a Local Heritage Why should a community preserve it’s local history? That is one of the questions Robin Inglis will address when he speaks to the West Van Historical Society members on Thursday, May 25. In his presentation“Defining a Lxx:al Heritage†Inglis will cover the important roles of museums, archives and historical societies in recording and understanding significant events and trends in the life of a community or a country. A history graduate from Cambridge University, Mr. Inglis has had a distinguished career with museums in Ontario and B.C. He is currently Director of the North Vancouver Museum and Archives. MACLEAN Anne Maclean is the new Community Archivist for the West Vancouver Museum and Archives. Bom and raised in Vancouver, Anne has a B.A. in English and a Master of Archival Studies (MAS) degree, both from UBC, and six years experience working in archives and records management. After completing her MAS degree she worked at the university archives in Archivist Anns Mscisan Toronto and Victoria, arranging and describing photographs, literary papers and various other media. Most recently, Anne worked as a records management consultant for Quartech Records Management (now Compendium Consultants Ltd.) in Vancouver. Anne started her new position on March 31.
