News from Museum & Archives On April 3,1 started my new position as Community Records Archivist at the West Vancouver Museum and Archives. Since then I have been busy getting to know everybody at the District and developing short- and long-term plans for the Archives. Early in April we acquired a hygro-thermograph through funding from a Canadian Council of Archives cost-shared grant, which was initiated by former archivist Christina Andrews and the Historical Society last year. The hygrothermograph measures the temperature and relative humidity in the Archives. Starting May 3, the Archives volunteers will be here on Wednesdays, identifying and numbering photographs and maps, maintaining the vertical file, assisting with reference services and many other tasks. With their help, I look forward to getting the Archives up and running again. From April 20 - 22,1 attended the Archives Association of British Columbia (AABC) conference at Dunsmuir Lodge near Victoria. The theme was public advocacy and outreach; in other words, "Are archivists doing enough to promote themselves and their institutions?" Six months from now you can tell me what you think! From June 14-18 1 will be in Regina for the Association of Canadian Archivists (CACA) annual conference, which I expect will be useful and fun. Archives re-opens Tuesday, May 2. Archives Hours; Tues. & Wed., 12:00-4:30 pm. (Except the week of June 12 when the Archives is open Mon.-Tues., June 12-13, and closed the 14th.) Anne Maclean. Volunteer Needs Volunteers are needed for several upcoming projects at the Museum & Archives. First, a successful Section 25 grant application means we will be hiring a Public Relations person and a Collection Management person for 5 months this summer. These two positions will begin in May. If you have an interest in these areas please let Deborah know. Volunteers should have taken the Introductory Training course but no experience is necessary. Second, we hope to begin researching and conducting oral histories this summer. This important area of research will be coordinated with the Historical Society, Museum and Archives so let Deborah know if you are interested.
