Contributions Editor: Barbara Johnson SPECIAL EVENTS ACTIVITIES Port Day ’95 Saturday May 6-10 AM to 4 PM. Our display this year will focus on “Lighthouses and their Keepersâ€... a timely topic, and a closer look at this important part of the history of West Vancouver and Burrard Inlet. I received a letter (on behalf of the Society) from Norman C. Stark, Pres.and CEO of Vancouver Port Corp., in which he states: "We would like to invite you to exhibit and be a part of our annual event. Thousands of people turned out for Port Day '94 and enjoyed the beautiful day! And I am pleased to report that Port Day '94 received an "Award of Excellence " from the American Associationof Port Authorities., recognizing the uniqueness and success of our Annual Open House festivities." “Open House†is for the general public to become acquainted with the Port Corporation and the many private marine industry displays and activities, and partake in the free harbour cruises and concessions. A non commercial event with free admission, and an informal and interesting family outing. Port Day Open House had already been an annual event in Vancouver for several years when they decided to expand to the North Shore in 1988. We are the only West Vancouver entry and therefore represent the District of West Vancouver as well as the Historical Society. The exhibits, demonstrations and activities will be in the PMTC building and in the adjacent Waterfront Park, North Vancouver. Our display will be in the Pacific Marine IVaining Campus (PMTC), formerly PMTI, and now under the umbrella of BCIT. We hope to be in the same location as last year. Weather on Port Day has been good to us and we expect a good turnout! See you there! By: Laureen M. Jones Director - Special Events Membership Report MEMBERSHIPS OWING With the exception of Corporate, Lifetime and Gift memberships, regular and senior members should take note that unless you have paid your 1995 dues, this History-onics will be the last one mailed to you. To answer the question, “Why do we terminate the Newsletter so early in the year?†The answer is economics. If we mailed the May issue to members in arrears, we would have supplied 60% of the year’s Newsletters with no guarantee of a renewal. The above w(k copied from the March 1993 issue and unfortunately is equally true today. If in arrearSy please remit immediately. New members will be listed in the next issue.
