The Newsletter Team has been considering the return of this feature for some time. With the Museum project finally completed and a significant change of faces on the B oard of Directors it might help in bringing forward the interests of our members. We found precedent for this back in 1987 with ‘Omnium Gatherum’, which attempted to encourage members to express their ideas; ask questions; submit suggestions and voice opinions. We take pleasure in initiating this feature on page 5 with a sincere letter expressing sentiments that we heartily second, but rememberthat we are seeking ideas, suggestions andquestions and be assured, opinions expressed need not meet such universal agreement as those expressed in this first letter to the Editor. Corporate Membership Policy Review To cover the increasing costs of our General Meetings a new category of Corporate Membership is under consideration. The Imperial Bank of Commerce agreed to Corporate Membership under the proposed in return for discreet acknowledgement. The Board will be reviewing the Corporate Membership Policy and we expect further details for publication in our next issue. What do you think? Why not make this the subject of your first Letter to the Editor? Take a close look at page 1. SPECIAL EVENTS ACTIVITIES Another Christmas party come and gone...but what a party! With President Ian Macdonald greeting guests at the door, Ian Loudon looking after the bar ticket sales, some strange looking bartender with Reggae dreadlocks and a Scottish accent (we think it was Alistair Duncan); Bill Hamilton juggling the glasses or was it the door - while Eric Lashbrook was helping out in several areas. Hugh Johnston, elegant in his waiter outfit, was serving drinks and Jim Robertson at the piano was playing Christmas tunes for our pleasure while everyone found a comfortable spot. Harold Johnson got things perking in the Refreshment room where Joan Skipper, Mary Chapman, Efiie Sutherland and newcomer to our group Betty Brolly, were arranging and setting out the treats. President Ian greeted the guests, wishing us all a Merry Christmas and a Happy 1995. He introduced Sally Seguin, who replaced Cathy Tocher as Santa’s helper this year, and on hearing sleighbells on the roof and Jim playing “Here Comes Santa Clausâ€; he introduced our own Santa, (who, of course, was Waring Pentland, our Newsletter publisher). Past-president Peter Hall had his camcorder focused on the activities and zero’d-in on Santa’s arrival and the winners of the Membership Report MEMBERSHIP UP DATE We have been having problems bringing our membership List up to date with the holiday season and building renovations under way. These varied in size and shape from Musical sox to Gold Yo-Yo, not to mention the mysterious return of “Lamb-Chopsâ€. After the draw and opening of the presents. Pres. Ian was the recipient of a special gift...I think it had something to do with his story in the last issue, about being shot at by a cannon at Pt. Atkinson during WW2...of course, he was very young at the time! After an intermission, we were favoured with a medley of songs by Tom Meglaughlin, with his accompanist, Jim Robertson. Later we all joined in singing Christmas carols, greeting each other with “We Wish You A Merry Christmasâ€...to finish the festivities of this most pleasant evening! MOST SINCERE THANKS to all the above mentioned participants for their interest in contributing their time and assistance to make it all come together, to Joan Skipper for managing the accommodation with Spuraway gardens, and who, with Betty Brolly did all the tidying up the next morning; to all the members who brought the eats and the Food Bank donations...thank you all. A SPEQAL NOTE OF THANKS to Mary Chapman and to Eleanor and Bill Hamilton for financing the Music and the Rental of the wine and beer glasses. We appreciate this kind and thoughtful gesture.
