The long awaited opening marks the attainment of a goal set in our Society's original terms of inception. A full account of the development of Getrude Lawson House, ‘TO MAKE A DREAM COME TRUE\ -by Society Past President Peter Hall, can be found on Page 7 of this issue. A PROGRAM OF EVENTS for the West Vancouver Canada Day Celebrations: Past, Present & Future, appears on Page 5. The Official Ceremonies will be held on the grounds of Gertude Lawson House at 1:30 pm. NEXT GENERAL MEETING The next General Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 26,1994 in the Auditorium of the Cedardale Centre, 595 Burley Drive (off Inglewood East of Taylor Way) and will commence at 7:00 p.m. FEATURE PRESENTATION IN THIS ISSUE WEST VAN’S FAMILY MOUNTAIN Holly bum Ridge has been a skiing, hiking and recreational wilderness hide-out for generations of West Vancouver Families dating back to the early 1920’s. Our meeting on Thursday, May 26 will be something of a reunion as members and guests get together to reminisce about adventures and good times on Holly bum -n- n n ^ -i* - ai^ ^ ^ ^ The Hollyburn Ski Camp was built m 1926. Also trails and m ski lodges. , n n i_ • ^ a.- * ^ known as Hollyburn Lodge, it continues to be a favourite gathering place for mountain people. Alex Swanson and Bob Tapp have developed a slide presentation covering many of the well known cabins and lodges such as West Lake, Cypress Park, Hollyburn and Old Hi-View. Together with Gerry Hardman and Derrick Hale, they will describe the history and changing architectural styles on the mountain from the 1920’s to recent times. As Swanson and Tapp explain, “Hollyburn has been a family mountain which has provided recreation for the people of West Vancouver and the Lower Mainland for many years. For long time residents , the May 26 meeting will be a chance to revisit old times. For more recent arrivals to West Vancouver it will be an opportunity to learn about the 70 year history of a unique wilderness settlement on Hollyburn Ridge.
