VOL. 12 NO. 2 MARCH 1994 THE NEWSLETTER OF THE WEST VANCOUVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY Dr. Newman and the Vancouver Public Aquarium West Vancouver Marine Zoologist Murray Newman's Illustrated Presentation on his Adventures as Founding Director of the Vancouver Public Aquarium will be Featured at the Society's March 24th General Meeting at Cedardale Centre. Using slides, Dr. Newman will trace the History of the Aquarium from the planning stages of the 1950’s through to 1993. Highlights include the capture of the first Killer Whale, Moby Doll in 1964, hunting narwhals off Baffin Island in the ‘70’s, opening the Graham Amazon Gallery by the Queen in 1983 and Newman’s other explorations to collect marine life around the world. Dr. Newman credits visionary business and fisheries leaders , including several prominent West Vancouverites for the success and popularity of the Aquarium.
