Page 2 CHRISTMAS PARTY The combined efforts of a group of our members brought about another successful festive gathering in the beautiful Spuraway Lodge, a truly unbeatable setting. The holiday fare was exceptional this year. Thank you Barb and Hal Johnson for your usual fine job at the coffee urn and generally setting things up. Van De West took on the job as Chairman overseeing the purchase of wine and beer; renting of glasses; getting the bar tickets; delivering all to the Lodge - and removing the empties; organizing the crew of excellent bartenders - Eric Lash-brook, Hugh Johnston and David Wilson; selling the bar tickets and the 'leftover' libations and coming out in the 'black' - all 53 cents worth! A very special thanks, Van and not to forget wife, Lorna, for carting the 'goods' in and hauling the empties out. Joan Skipper, a resident in the Spuraway complex, again arranged for the use of the Lodge, organized the coffee urn and cups and, bless her, vacuumed the place out the next morning. Gorgeous door prizes were selected by Fran and Peter Hall and prettily packaged by Fran. Special thanks go to the Town & Village Shop (1534 Marine Drive) for their generous contribution. We are indebted to the North Shore News for donating carol sheets. On the downside, we were unsuccessful in finding anyone to play the piano. Wouldn't it be nice if someone would volunteer RIGHT NOW for our next party? Need I point out that Christmas comes but once-a-year? On the upside, all those members who turned out, did their part to make the evening a hit .......... thank you, one and all. A letter from Ruth Stout, Executive Officer of the W.V. Santa Claus Fund reads; Dear Friends: It really is what Christmas is all about - to think of others in share your own good fortune with them. need, and to All of you have shown that you care by your donations of special treats. The West Vancouver Santa Claus Fund would like to express their warmest thanks for your kindness. A very Happy New Year to all. WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND At the Jan. 28th General Meeting, you will be asked to consider a change of name for the Society. You will recall that we started out as the West Vancouver Historical Society but when the establishment of a Museum became our chief aim we became the West Vancouver Museum and Historical Society. Now under way, the municipally operated museum (main floor of the Gertrude Lawson House) and the archives (ground level of the Gertrude Lawson House) are known as the West Vancouver Museum and Archives. So, in order to avoid confusion and, in a sense, to get us back to our roots, it is proposed that we revert to our original name, the West Vancouver Historical Society. In other words, we will have gone full circle. To accomplish this we are required to pass a special resolution, allowing a minimum of 14 days notice to members. Therefore, be advised that formal notice of said resolution is hereby given and that the special resolution hereunder will be presented to the members at. the Annual General Meeting on March 25, 1993. "Be resolved that the West Vancouver Museum and Historical Society alter its name to the West Vancouver Historical Society."
