EXECUTIVE REPORTS By: Peter Hall, President MUSEUM FUNDING APPROVED The big news is that the West Vancouver Council has approved additional funding for the Museum! On September 27th the Council unanimously voted to provide the extra funds needed to get the Museiun open in the late spring or early summer of 1994. The Historical Society has expressed its thanks to the Mayor and Council for their actions, particularly during this time of constraint. The Society was active in keeping this matter before Council and we are most appreciative of the support and encouragement of Coimcillors Pat Boname, Rod Day and Diana Hutchinson. Now that funding is in place for the balance of 1993 and for 1994, the pace will pick up at the Museum as Jacquie Gijssen prepares for the grand opening. WEST VAN FOUNDATION APPROVES COMPUTER GRANT Another piece of good news is that the West Vancouver Foundation approved our application for a grant so that we could complete the Museum and Archives computerization programme referred to in the last issue of History-Onics. We have received a cheque for $6674 and by the time you read this the new system will be up and running. The money came from the Kay Meek Fund within the Foundation and we again extend our gratitude to Mrs Meek for her support of culture and the arts in West Vancouver. The Foundation was the subject of a feature article in the September History-Onics. Further information may be obtained by writing to them at Box 91447, West Vancouver, V7V 3P1. MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL TIME (Renewal Form Supplied) Included in this issue as an insert is your membership renewal form. We hope that members will remit their dues promptly so we may be spared the extra expense of sending out reminders. As they say in the flood of solicitations we get in the mail, WHY NOT DO IT TODAY! CAPITAL FUND NEEDS DONATIONS Please also note that there is a space where you may enter an amount as a donation. The dues pay the ordinary expenses such as postage, stationery, meeting room rentals, etc. All the donations received go straight into our Capital Fund. These funds are used to provide equipment for the Museum and Archives which would otherwise not be provided, for special projects that the M & A budget cannot stretch to cover and for special presentations which the Society may wish to undertake. It should be stressed that, while the Municipality covers the ongoing operating cost of the Museum and Archives, there are virtually no funds for such things as school programmes and outreach projects. Disbursements from the Capital Fund are made only after receiving the approval of the Society’s Board of Directors. CHRISTMAS PARTY SET FOR DECEMBER 9 On page 4 there is an invitation to all members to attend our Christmas Party on Thursday, December 9th. Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to come. The Party committee of Laureen Jones, Joan Skipper, Mary Chapman and Norma Sissons are promising a lively and fun time and, knowing them as we do, it will be all of that and then some!
