We would like to hear your comments on the content, presentation and the general format of our first two issues. If you have suggestions thatmightmakeourpublicationmore interesting or otherwise improve it please give any member of our publishing team a call. We would appreciate your interest and attempt to follow your recommendations where possible. We are always looking for personal articles regarding the history of West Vancouver. If you have anything that you would like to see reproduced in the Newsletter, give us a call at any of the numbers listed below. Don’t feel restricted to the subject matter of your contribution, and consider, it represents your personal remembrance. Don’t be concerned that the image might be blurred or that details might be slightly confused. Contributions from individuals will be published as received and we will ask our readers to join us in respecting your unique personal recollections. Pat Wallace would like some help in researching and preparing special articles for the Newsletter.This will require research in our own archives and other sources such as the West Van Memorial Library . SPECIAL EVENTS ACTIVITIES We had a busy summer as reported in the last issue The time and work involved in the preparation and presentation of the displays and the parade cannot be accomplished without assistance. For their time and efforts I must thank Ted Meglaughlin for his valuable help in setting up the displays, and Cathy Tocher for production assistance. To those who act^ as docents, ten^ng the displays by spreading charm and historical information to the visitors - at Port Day; Mary Chapman, Joan Skipper, Edith Hawirko and Susan Dirasser- at Community Day; Eleanor and Bill Hamilton, Mary Chapman, Florrie Mitchell and Effie Sutherland...thank you all, your assistance is greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Byron Briton for loaning his vintage car and time to be our entry in the parade; to Norma Hamilton for being our guest former May Queen and to Bas Collins for the video tapes of the parade. All in all it w’as a "good show". Laureen Jones, Director - Special Events Membership Report COMPUTER CASTOFFS NEEDED Do you know someone who has just upgraded to a new computer and can not sell the old one? The Society has volunteer typists who could could use such a unit. A donation of a useable computer to the Society could result in a financial advantage to the doner. Call Waring at 987-2810 MEMBERSHIP UPDATE We have had 14 new members join since our last report in May and as of August 31 our total is 420 The names of the fourteen new members appear below in alphabetical order. NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM I would like to draw your attention to the enclosed copy of our revised Membership Application Form. We ask you to join us in giving special thanks to Laureen Jones for her work in revising this form. The changes in our name and mailing address made the revision essential but an update was badly overdue . We are pleased to be able show you an example of our continuing efforts to be more professional but also hope that you will make good use of your copy. Consider for a moment what our membership would be if every member took the time to sign up just one new member. Please put your copy of the new Membership Application Form to good use and introduce our Society to one of your friends. New members joining before the end of the year will receive the November issue of HISTORY-ONICS as well as the 5 regular issues for 1994. Members will receive their usual Invoice for the 1994 membership dues with the November Newsletter.
