EXECUTIVE REPORTS By: Peter HalU President PresidenVs Report on 1993Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting of the Society was held at HoUybum School on Thursday, March 25, 1993. To many of the members attending it was “coming home’ - they had been students there. Indeed, some had learned their three R’s at HoUybum over 60 years ago! So there was some nostalgia mixed in with the business. Speaking of business, the members dealt with a number of matters in business-like style. After the Minutes of the last meeting were approved, the President merciftiUy spared the group by referring them to the printed copy of the Annual Report rather than reading it. With aU the nostalgia in the air, it seemed only fitting that the members approved a motion to change the Society’s name back to its original “West Vancouver Historical Societyâ€. This wiU hopefuUy avoid any futher confusion with the municipally run “West Vancouver Museum and Archivesâ€. On to other matters; members voted to increase the maximum number of directors to sixteen. The President explained that this was proposed because it is expected that some of the long serving directors wiU wish to step down next year and new directors wiU benefit from a year of experience before accepting more demanding duties. The election of directors next ensued and a warm welcome was extended to new board members Peter Finch, Donald Graham, Eleanor HamUton, Ian Macdonald and Catherine Tocher. The fiiU Ust of directors is shown in the column to the left. In keeping with our by-laws the directors wiU elect the officers at their next ensuing meeting. Notstandingfor re-election was David Wilson, ourpast-Presidentand an outstanding contributor to the Society. His work touched every facet of our operations and was done well. We will miss his counsel and good humour around the board-room table. The members elected Harvey Hill as Auditor for 1993. We are grateful to Harvey for allowing his name to go forward. As a former Treasurer and board member Harvey has always been generous with his time and skills. Before^the motion was made to terminate the meeting members enthusiastically endorsed there-appointmentofRupertHarrison as HonouraryArchivist for another year. May there be many more such endorsations in the future as “Mr History†continues to enrich our knowledge of what “went beforeâ€. Directors Set Up Standing Committees The Society's Directors have established eight standing committees to better carry out their management responsibilities. The principal reasons for doing so are to spread the work load more evenly, involve more members in the operation of the Society and to provide greater continuity when long serving directors retire. Members of the Society are encouraged to contact the appropriate committee with questions or suggestions. The committees and chairpersons appointed to date are: Membership: Chair - Tom Taylor 921-9605 Finance: Chair - Alistair Duncan 922-3483 Planning and Funding: Co-chairs - Jack Leland 929-1484 Peter Finch 922-5748 Newsletter and Public Information: Principal Contacts - Waring Pentland'987-2810 Anne Vernon 926-3718 Pat Wallace 922-2216 Public Events: Chair - Laureen Jones 922-4463 Museum & Archives Volunteer Services: Chair - Norma Sissons 925-3460 Museum and Archives Liaison: Principal Contacts -Jack Leyland 929-1484 Hugh Johnston 922 0306 Peter Hall 922-7947 Program:_________Principal Contact - Jim MacCarthy 922-0989
