Page 3 the Annual General Meeting. We incurred an operating loss for the year due primarily to costs associated with the move to the Lawson House and a special grant to the Municipality to permit the part-time hiring of an archivist in November and December. Reserves were adequate to cover the excess of expenditure over income. Executive Committee: The Executive Committee, comprised of all the Directors, met eight times during the year. Of the new members elected in March, we were sorry to lose the services of Janis Johnson who was forced to resign due to the pressure of her business activities. I would like to extend my personal thanks to all committee members for their help and support during my term as President. We are indeed fortunate to have such a capable group of Directors. In accordance with the by-laws of the Society, the principal officers will be elected by the directors at the April Executive Meeting. A B C LEARNING OUR A B Cs is for Archives (and Museum). The West Vancouver Museum & Archives, like the library, is a municipal entity. A library is under the direction of a librarian, an archives is guided by an archivist; and a museum by a curator. In the case of the West Vancouver Museum & Archives, the museum Curator is Ms. Jacqueline Gijssen (introduced to you in the September '92 newsletter). The position of archivist has yet to be posted. Both Curator and Archivist are under contract to the Municipality. For enquiries relating to the Archives and/or Museum telephone 926-9254. is for Building (the Gertrude Lawson House). The Gertrude Lawson House is a municipal building, purchased by the Municipality and, to all intents and purposes, renovated almost entirely through the efforts of the Historical Society. The Archives occupy the ground floor; the Museum the main floor. The Archives are in operation and available to the public. The Museum will open in the near future. Lo for Clarification - the role of the Historical Society. With the completion of the restoration of the Gertrude Lawson House, we now focus our attention on providing volunteer support for the municipally administered Museum & Archives. Two examples: if the Museum & Archives request certain photographs for a display, the Historical Society's photographic department will try to supply them; if hostesses are required for a specific event, we
