Page 2 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Thursday, March 26, 1992 - Cedardale Centre President David Wilson opened the meeting by welcoming 52 members and guests. By arrangement. Hazel 1'Estrange, representing the Burnaby Historical Society, was introduced and spoke at some length about the many events planned for Burnaby's 100th anniversary. An invitation was extended to our members to attend the celebrations. In the absence of recording secretary Norma Sissons, Georgia the minutes of the 1991 AGM and they were adopted as read. Wilson read Treasurer Harvey Hill presented his report, covering the highlights of the Society's finances and announced that they were in good order. The President pointed out that although large sums of money v?ere referred to in the Treasurer's report, most of those monies were from grants which, when received, were either immediately passed on to the municipality for renovation costs to the Gertrude Lawson House or were expended by the Society on projects for which the grants had been awarded. Instead of calling upon individual committee members for their reports, the President recounted the year's accomplishments much of which had already appeared in the March newsletter. Additional items: 1. The Executive had discussed possible changes in membership fees but recommended that no fee increases would be proposed as we are operating within our budget at this time. 2. The President explained that we would not be receiving nor would we be requesting a Municipal Grant as the Society is now operating from a municipally owned building and no longer pays the annual $1500.00 rent to the West Vancouver School Board. 3. The cost of producing the newsletter on our copier has been further reduced since adopting the 2 large, folded pages versus the 4 individual, stapled pages. The time in running off the newsletter has also dropped from 5 hours to 2 1/2 hours. Photographic Department - David Wilson reported that a good deal of time was spent in reorganizing the darkroom from what had been a makeshift operation at Cedardale Centre to a custom designed darkroom at the Gertrude Lawson House. The Society fell heir to a 4 x 5 inch enlarger from an estate and this acquisition has measurably expanded the technical capabilities of the photographic department. See "Moira - an Appreciation" The following Notice of Motion was introduced, voted upon and carried: "Any member who fails to attend three consecutive regular meetings of the executive shall cease to be a member of the executive and his or her appointment shall be terminated". Rupert Harrison was appointed Honourary Archivist. Jack Leyland, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, was called upon to conduct the election of Directors for 1992-93. He thanked Directors Harvey Hill, Jim Mac-Carthy, Georgia VJilson and Don Youngson for their services as Directors and a special 'thank you' to G.Wilson for her contribution over the years as Director of Membership, Editor of the Newsletter and a former Treasurer.
