Page 8 To paraphrase the biblical quote, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find"; ...... We asked, sought and got! In response to the specific plea in the March newsletter, Gerry and Joy Leader came forth with a micro wave oven and the Minions Family, a small refrigerator. Recently, Georgie Wilson donated a computer work station and Mary Chapman a special tray for our copier which enables us to economize on costs and time in printing our new, fold-style newsletter. Add to the foregoing a $500.00 gift from Christina Andrews - the same gal who brought us 10 new members this year -and our joy knov;s no bounds. Christina has requested that the money be spent on the Archives, the first purchase to be much-needed metal filing cabinets ... unless, of course, there's an unknown filing cabinet donor out there in membership land? If you would like to see your name attached to a donated article, just give us a ring and we'll read off the items from our wish-list registry or, how about "The postage for this issue of 'History-onics' has been paid for through the generosity of Joe Blank" - right up there on the front page? HELP WANTED - We urgently need a volunteer to act as the Society's Aud-A few days a year will take care of it, so it's not too demanding. If itor. Someone with a CA, CGA, RIA or other 'ticket' would be just the ticket, you can help, please phone Peter Hall (922-7947) or Hugh Johnston (922-0306) THE POWER OF NEGATIVE THINKING The design of the house on the left might lead one to believe that the home exemplifies present day architecture were it not for the style of the ladies' dresses seen in the foreground. The gowns are decidedly yesteryear. The photograph was printed from a black and white negative, probably about 70 years of age and the quality of the print is nothing short of remarkable. Making a print from a negative is a simple procedure; making a print from a picture is not. A photographer must first take a picture of the picture; develop the film to get the negative; and then make a print from the negative. As could be expected, the quality of the end product suffers from the extra steps. The darkroom volunteers are asking you to think positive about negatives and, wherever possible, to submit NEGATIVES for archival consideration. Thank you. Photo courtesy R. Thompson
