Page 6 3^ The West Vancouver Heritage Advisory Committee cordially invites you to a Plaque Unveiling to commemorate the historic site “The Clachan" the present home of Peppis Restaurant at the foot of 25th Street Dundarave, West Vancouver, B.C. 1992 February 22 Saturday Outdoor ceremony 11 ;00am • Reception to follow Didn’t fortune smile on us at the above event? Sandwiched between a rotten Friday and an equally rotten Sunday, the sun shone brightly on a braw assemblage consisting primarily of members of the Historical Society. The somewhat serious speeches of Wally Beck, incoming Chairman of the Heritage Advisory Committee and John Scott, past Chairman, were offset by a flummoxed Mayor Mark Sager who, upon introducing two, honoured lady guests attributed the grand age of 93 years to the wrong one and credited an ancestor of the other as being the builder of The Clachan - which he wasn't. There were three guests in all, directly descended from the Stevenson Family who emigrated to Canada from Scotland and acquired The Clachan property at least as early as 1911 (documented). Rupert Harrison delivered an excellent account of the history of the building and its succession of names and owners and he has very kindly given the Society a copy of his address for the Archives. After the Plaque Unveiling, refreshments were served on the patio by the capable Peppi's staff and while the delicious cake was technically not angel food cake, no one could deny that is was absolutely heavenly. If you missed this one, you missed a goodie! IMPORTANT NOTICE In the past, it has been our policy to enclose a second invoice with the March newsletter to those members who have not responded to their January billing. Please note that we are discontinuing this convenience as the combined weight of the invoice and newsletter can tip the postage required up to 65c (plus GST). Without having received a notice of intention to discontinue, the Society carries an unpaid member through two newsletters, invoicing and postage. For obvious economic reasons, the mailing of newsletters beyond this issue will cease.
