Page 5 NOTICE OF MOTION WHERAS it is desirous to ensure the continuity of the business proceedings of the Executive by way of regular attendance at its meetings, AND WHEREAS our bylaws make no provision regarding such attendance, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT on page 3 of the bylaws Part #5 - subsection 27 be renumbered 27.1 and new item 27.2 be added to read 27.2 Any member who fails to attend three consecutive regular meetings of the executive shall cease to be a member of the executive and his or her appointment shall be terminated. NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT The Nominating committee will nominate a slate of candidates as Directors of the West Vancouver Museum and Historical Society for a one year term ending March 31, 1993. In accordance with the by-laws of the Society, the directors will, at the first executive meeting following the Annual General Meeting, elect the Principal Officers - President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Following that unsettling I-don't-know-how-to-turn-off-the-fire-bell incident in January, Don Steinbart of the West Van Fire Department hied it over to the Gertrude Lawson House and spent the better part of a morning going over the alarm systems with 13 volunteers including the I-don't-know-how one. Well, would you believe that lightning strikes twice? Not the same place, mind you, but the same volunteer. It was just minutes into the movie 'Life Is Sweet' at Cineplex Odeon's Royal Centre location when a fire bell clanged. For a few seconds, the sound fitted right in with the movie's opening scene of kids in a school classroom but as the bell continued to ring and drown out the dialogue the situation dawned on the audience who then began to pour into the foyer. Lacking any instructions from theatre staff who were nowhere to be seen, everyone headed towards the Box Office entrance, even passing an emergency exit enroute. By now, the throngs from theatres 1, 2 and 3 had reached the Box Office and had been assured there was no real emergency, only a malfunctioning fire bell and they had turned back just in time to buck the tides from theatres 4 to 10. The bell continued to ring; some blockheads returned to the theatres; and the projectionists continued to run the movies regardless of audiences. The brains in charge of the building's systems weren't one whit better at shutting off the alarm than our volunteer had been at the Gertrude Lawson House. Did our volunteer stay? Of course not. To paraphrase what Don Steinbart told us that January day: "Life Is Sweet". When "Bells Are Ringing", you don't wait around and ask "For Whom the Bell Tolls" ....it toll for thee.
