Page 4 ughout the years, combined with shrewd investing rounded out the Capital Fund to over $45,000.00 at the close of the year. When you consider that the Society's initial pledge for renovations to the Gertrude Lawson House was $15,000.00; later increased to $30,000.00; and at year's end we handed the Municipality a cheque for $45,000.00, I think you'll agree that we were very successful in our efforts. We are not finished yet, however, as we are still nearly $10,000.00 short of paying the costs of the renovations. We were most fortunate to receive a donation for $50,000.00 from the Kay Meek Foundation. These funds were donated specifically for providing furnishings and equipment for the Museum. Displays; The Society provided displays at Park Royal during Heritage Week, at Port Day, at Community Day and at Tax Week at the Municipal Hall. Thank you Laureen Jones. Newsletter: We published our customary 5 issues of History-onics during the year. Special thanks go to member David Swanson of Victoria for continuing to supply us with excellent 'Half-tones' which contribute greatly to the quality and appearance of the newsletter. We have been able to cut the costs of printing the newsletter from 56c per copy to under 20c by using our own copier, donated by Rotaract. Thanks go to the group of dependable ladies who collate the newsletter and to the Editor for putting it all together. Social Conveners; I would especially like to thank the husband/wife team of Hal and Barb Johnson for seeing us through another 5 meetings with tea, coffee and cookies and more, much more at the Christmas Party. Telephone Committee: A special thanks to the unseen but not unsung Telephone Captains under the direction of Pat McCrady. Although no more than 10 names are assigned to a Captain, contacting 10 persons by phone takes up a lot of time. Your efforts are appreciated. Volunteers: Without the dedication of our volunteers, our Society would not be where it is today. A sincere 'Thank you' to all of you who have given so freely of your time. MEMBERSHIP REPORT FOR 1991 The year closed with a total of 289 individual members and 58 Lifetime members. It was a disappointing year for corporates, several having fallen by the wayside possibly due to the shaky economic climate in the retail community. We acquired one new corporate member during 1991, a total of 28. We were, however, very encouraged by the number of new individual members - 45 in all, not a Society record but nevertheless very gratifying. It was a sad year for losing members as we said goodbye to 6 of our great old-timers - Mary Bullock, Marjory Ersk-ine, Tom Hadwin, Les Hughes, Sybil Mahon and Percy Masterman. They will be missed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those members who so thoughtfully enclosed stamped, self-addressed envelopes when mailing in their membership dues. You literally saved me hours of work and the Society, many dollars in postage. It is sincerely appreciated. Georgie Wilson, Director of Membership
