The President concluded the meeting with the observation that it was fortunate for all of us that Rupert and Bas Collins had conducted oral interviews and that these tapes can be wonderful reminders of our past. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served. PRESIDENT'S REPORT 1991 was a banner year for our Society. In addition to our five meetings with their very interesting speakers - our five newsletters with their many different topics and articles, the 'big event' was moving into the Gertrude Lawson House. We now have a bright and cheerful environment in which to carry on our work. The executive, volunteers and archivist have all had an exceedingly busy year carrying out a wide variety of activities. Grants; In addition to receiving grants from GO BC and Heritage trust for the renovations to the Gertrude Lawson House, we have also been fortunate to receive grants from the BC Archives Council. These grants have covered archivist's fees for processing backlog material and the cost of archival supplies for the facility. Fundraising: Our fundraising activities have been exceptionally rewarding. Tom Taylor initiated a letter-writing appeal primarily to non-members of the Historical Society and personally brought in $3700.00. Other members of the executive followed Tom's lead and also added $3900.00 to the Capital Fund. Laur-een Jones' drawing of the Gertrude Lawson House, which was given to donors of $300.00 or more, raised over $3000.00. The Garage Sale brought in close to $4000.00.
