He would be interested in anything that you think might be interesting or significant about people and events from the early days of the community. As an indication of the sort of thing, we cite the following: The man who lived in a tree. His name was, we think, Joseph Yowart, and the time somewhere in the 1920's. Pageant Day. The School Board minutes of 4 May 1920 read in part: N/S Porter, Gourley "...that the Secretary write Superintendent of Education for permission to grant a holiday for the school children on the Pagent [sic] day. Motion carried." Later minutes do not contain a reply. Anybody remember a Pageant Day - when, where and why? Two old maids who lived in a frame tent mounted on a ten foot wide cedar stump on the south side of Esquimau between 14 & 15 streets. A building fire close to Ambleside Wharf in 1919. A building fire so close to Ambleside Wharf that Miss Palmer had to evacuate her class (she had an overflow class in a rented room near the wharf.) George Clarke and his horse drawn home delivery kerosene service. Any other home delivery services - fruit and vegetables, drugs and prescriptions, milk, newspapers, groceries. Chinese vegetable garden at the corner of 14 Street & Marine Drive. Some of you are sure to read the above and say, "But why is he not interested in ...?" Of course, he is - add it to your list of recollections.
