The memory is as sharp today as then! Recently I heard a story about a little boy due to start kindergarten. Up to that point in his life, he had declined to wipe his own bottom. When his mother pointed out to him that the teacher would not have time to do it and that he would be expected to do it for himself, he replied, "Well, then, just don't sign me up!"
