Page 10 Editor's Note: I, too, remember Dr. Nash. The year was 1932 and the medical examinations required before entering Grade 1 were underway at Hollyburn School. Dr. Nash was enthroned in the dark cave which was the office of Principal Donald D. Davidson and the hall was filled with fidgeting children with grave doubts about the necessity of an education. Shuffle through the door behind one's mother and then, "Blouse off! Arms Up! Undershirt Off!" and there, standing stripped to the waist, one was utterly defenceless in warding off the viscious bite on the chest by a venomous silver-tongued stethoscope! The memory is as sharp today as then! Recently I heard a story about a little boy due to start kindergarten. Up to that point in his life, he had declined to wipe his own bottom. When his mother pointed out to him that the teacher would not have time to do it and that he would be expected to do it for himself, he replied, "Well, then, just don't sign me up!" Now, why didn't I think of that 59 years ago? WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Since January 17th of this year, the following persons have become members of our Society:- Mrs. J. Grace Ruddell, Mrs. Jean W. MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS A reminder to those members who have not, as yet, renewed their memberships for 1991. For your convenience, we have enclosed an invoice with your newsletter.
