Page 3 History-onics - The members all thank you again, Georgia, for memories and humour - an excellent publication! another year of Heritage Research - During the year, we came across a letter written in 1936 by Lord Southborough in which the donating of a statue to the Municipality of West Vancouver for the purpose of public enjoyment is mentioned. This statue was the work of French sculptor Salliere and was completed before the First World War for John D. Rockefeller. For many years it was ’stored' outside the North Mall of Park Royal. It is now well displayed in the South Mall. As 54 years have passed since it was received, we decided to remind the Municipality to whom it belonged. As a result, the statue will eventually be moved to a more prominent location on Municipal property. The Gertrude Lawson House - As our members are very much aware of our plans to develop this heritage building as a Museum and Archives, a repetition of our involvement is unnecessary. Suffice it to mention that this is the culmination of a long term objective visualized by your charter executive when the Society was first formed in 1980. Fund-Raising - A bouquet to Laureen Jones for creating the beautiful drawing of the Gertrude Lawson House. The drawing is available in a large size suitable for framing and in hasti-note size, as well. All proceeds from the sales go to the Society and sales have been encouraging. We are fortunate to have such a talent amongst us. In closing, I particularly wish to thank most sincerely all those people who have donated pictures, scrapbooks, historic papers, etc. Tnese are valuable additions to our archives. I also wish to express my gratitude to the members who have so willingly participated in Society events, under the direction of the following Chairmen: Patricia McCrady Margaret Whiffin Barbara Johnson The Telephone Committee Reception Desk Committee Hospitality Committee and not forgetting the Christmas Party planners - notably Eric Lashbrook. Lastly, the group of ladies who assemble the newsletter and the small army who deliver it to your doorstep - THANK YOU. ’Jack Leyland’ President MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT 1989 has passed into history as an outstanding year for the Society. We acquired 52 new members pushing the individual total into the 300s - 311, to be exact, plus 34 corporate members. Sadly, two of our members passed away during the year - Nettie Borthwick and Edward Sheffield. MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS A reminder to those members who have not , as yet, renewed their memberships for 1990. For your convenience, we have enclosed an invoice with your newsletter. We have been asked why we terminate the newsletter with the March issue. The answer is economics. If we were to carry delinquent members through to May, we would have supplied GOX of the year’s newsletters with no gaurantee of a renewal. We simply cannot afford it.
