PAGE 2 NOVEMBER 1989 GENERAL MEETING There’s something about the name “Rupert Harrison" that pulls people out from the comfort of their chesterfields and plunks them down onto hard, plastic chairs with scarcely a murmer of complaint. Such was the case on November 23rd when Mr. Rupert Harrison presented the concluding ’chapter* to his earlier address entitled, "The West Vancouver Ferries and Buses" and with his opener -"Ways of getting to West Van other than by water", we knew this wasn’t going to be your average bus ride - and it wasn’t. Because of the subject’s scope; its technical elements; statistical references and its anecdotal revelations, we feel fortunate to have recorded the address on tape. A couple of examples of the amusing stories heard that evening appear in print elsewhere in the newsletter. The business portion of the meeting was brief and concise presided over by President Jack Ley land. The latest information on the Gertrude Lawson House is that Architect Mike Barnes was preparing a brief for presentation to Council in the early part of December and, if approved, working drawings would be prepared between January and March; tenders in May; construction in the summer and finished by November, 1990. It is planrmd that a comer of the Museum be furnished with furniture of the period. Jack Ley land announced that he had a bit of a poser on his hands having received through the mail several photographs - pictures of Mrs. Fraser’s kindergarten school; some girls at camp; a bridge identified on the back as Cap-ilano Bridge 1913; and a negative of a 1913 football team - maybe soccer .... but not a boo as to who sent them. Will the mystery mailer please stand up and identify himself? Laureen Jones spoke on her drawing of the Gertrude Lawson House available in card form as well as large reproductions suitable for framing, the latter to be given to anyone donating $300.00 or more to the Capital (Building) Fund. Hugh Addison introduced the speaker whose address was followed by a brief slide presentation and then everyone trooped into the Music Room for coffee and cookies. All too soon, the evening was over.
