MAY i=f:=:3 THE HEWS LETTER OF THE WEST VANCOUVER MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY Courtesy of the Sewell Family NOTICE OF A GENERAL MEETING A picture is worth a thousand words but we'll have both words and pictures when Mr. Tom Sewell appears as our Guest Speaker at the May 25th General Meeting to be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Music Room of Pauline Johnson School. The Sewell name has been synonymous with Horseshoe Bay since 1931 when Dan Sewell installed his family in the former summer home of the well-known Roedde family, printers from Vancouver. Pictured above is Whytecliff Lodge which a Mr. Thorpe, interim owner of the Roedde property, had had moved from its original Bay Street site, where Troll's now stands. Today, we tend to think of Whytecliff as a small area beyond Horseshoe Bay but when Dan Sewell renamed his Lodge, Whytecliff encompassed all of Gleneagles and the western end of the Municipality. Tom Sewell knows his Horseshoe Bay subject as well as Pythagoras knew his theorems and we can look forward to an informative and interesting evening. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of Mr. Sewell's address. The Society makes every effort to ensure that all articles are accurate and takes no responsibility for inaccuracies.
