The other day, 45 years after my last English class on Shakespeare's plays, I finally got around to looking up the v;ord 'husbandry'. I knew it had something to do v/ith farming and nothing to do V7ith wives but it was only upon reading my dictionary's 3rd definition - 'careful or thrifty management' - that the penny dropped regarding Polonius's admonition to Laertes: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be for loan oft loses both itself and friend and borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry". Let's just apply that dictum to an existing situation. For example, by our borrov/ing a coffeemaker from the School Board, v/e might lose the coffeemaker and v/e'd certainly lose the amicability of the School Board but, worse still, by continuing to borrow the coffeemaker, we forfeit the adeptness of thrifty management. Well, someone has anonymously donated a West Bend automatic coffeemaker to the Society; old Polonius doesn't have to fret over us; and we don't have to imperil dulling our husbandry's edge. When a community's business sector supports a local cultural wing, it provides that body with a stable financial base on v/hich to build and the encouragement to continue to strive to achieve the organization's goals. We appreciate the support we have received from cur corporate members and v/e take pride and pleasure in printing the names of those who, in addition to corporate fees, have donated to our Capital Fund.
