Page 2 TIME PERMITTING - The Editor We save our necks with the words *time permitting' when, in the announcement of an Annual General Meeting, we program a possible 'filler'. Only once in the past three years have we presented one. A nomination from the floor at the '88 AGM precipitated a ballot vote creating an interim into which we slipped a slide presentation showing the varied activities of the Society and a display featuring photographic artifacts. Since this was in the hands of a member of the Executive, we could pretty well cut him off short a la Major Bowes - something we couldn't very well do with a guest speaker. Can you picture it? "Oops, sorry! We've had 10 nominations from the floor; you've got 5 minutes for your address!" Programming a 'filler' is an imperfect solution to be sure and at times creates an air of disappointment but, of course, the business of the AGM is of paramount importance to the operation of the Society - the entertainment, secondary. Even if you eat all your vegetables, there may not be a dessert. Having said all that and with apologies to Paul Thygessen who comes all the way from Surrey and rarely misses a meeting and who brought his young grandson along to be entertained "with excerpts and anecdotes from the John Lawson Papers", on with the report of the April 15th Annual General Meeting . President Jack Leyland opened the meeting promptly at 7:00 p.m. by welcoming 55 members and guests. Although various reports had appeared in the March 'History-onics', it seems that there is always more to comment on. For example, Laura Coles, in her report on archival activity, had us all agape to learn that 12 to 15 thousand photographs had been processed during the year along with 50 linear feet of archival material. Jack Leyland thanked Mary Chapman, in particular, for her considerable contribution to those 50 linear feet. Not only does Mary come in three times a week to work on the Archives, but she busses it from North Van via the Lonsdale Quay. We could do with a dozen more like her. There were a great many thank 'yous' and maybe some oversights. If we didn't doff our hat in your direction - write the Editor and we'll make amends. Len Ormiston, now residing in Coquitlam, was appointed Auditor and Rupert Harrison, Honorary Archivist. Retiring Directors Hugh Addison, Bas Collins and Bob Thompson were thanked for their wonderful support. It was moved and seconded that the number of Directors for 1990 be set at twelve and it was also moved that the immediate Past President be an ex officio member of the executive. Elections: Harold Johnson, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, then pre- sented his report. The candidates were introduced and as there were no nominations from the floor, the slate of officers was adopted as presented. The Notice of Motion that the principal officers - President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer be elected by the Directors at the first Executive Meeting following the Annual General Meeting was adopted as read. Accordingly, the following officers for the 1990-91 term were elected at the April 24th Executive Meeting. President ..................... Jack Leyland 1st Vice President ............ David Wilson 2nd Vice President ............ Don Youngson Secretary ..................... Norma Sissons Treasurer ..................... Harvey Hill
