ANNUAL REPORT - WORKROOM - 1988 The workroom at Pauline Johnson School has completed a busy and productive year. 20 volunteers contributed 2823 hours of work, which consisted of processing documents, photo-copying, typing and filing. In May we received a grant of $5000 from the Canadian Archives Council. This grant was obtained with the assistance of the B. C. Archives Council and enabled the Society to obtain the services of Laura Coles, an Archivist. The workroom has now become a real Archives operation, using proper procedures for documenting and storing material. The largest collection to be processed is the J. B. Leyland Papers, which consist of 6 feet of documents - the legal measure of archives being the length of shelf space required to store each collection. This important collection includes correspondence, photographs, news clippings, ephemera, publications, and maps, covering the years 1912 -1971 involving Mr. Leyland's years in West Vancouver. This is a very valuable addition to our Archives and much appreciated by the Society. Through a grant from New Horizons we were able to purchase office and darkroom equipment. Our membership dues provide us with the needed stationery supplies so we now have a well equipped workroom which can handle many more volunteers and many more donations or archival material. However, more volunteers are needed to join in this interesting work.
