^PORT DAY '8 8*^ We were pleased to accept an invitation to participate in PORT DAY *88 which was held on May 29th at the Pacific Marine Training Institute (PMTI) at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver. Port Day is sponsored by the Port of Vancouver and this year, for the first time included the North Shore, attracting an estimated 5000 visitors. Our display was on behalf of the Corporation of the District of West Vancouver and was coordinated by Alderman Pat Boname. We are indebted to Eaton's Park Royal for lending us paintings of the old West Vancouver ferries. These paintings formed the basis of the display which also included the ferry routes and a capsule history. Displayed as well was a story of the life and times of "Navvy Jack" Thomas, compiled by Hugh Johnston. The staff at the PMTI and the Port of Vancouver were most helpful and co-operative, as were all those involved and we thank them all. Special Events Chairman, Laureen Jones says that she is looking forward to a return engagement next year. How's that for enthusiasm?
