fl BUILDIDG flS THE ^ QF R REGIOnl Cont. from "History-onics†Volume 6, Ktimber 1 CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDING COMMENCED The Dec. 6th issue of the EXPRESS gives us a description of the building; ••Consti*uction work has started on the new Conservative Club building in Dundarave and already the framework is up. The building is located on Ipt 16, Block 23, D.L. 555. The structure is 30 feet by 110 feet. The main hall of the building is 30 feet by 60 feet. The equipment of this hall includes a moveable stage with a raised circular platform in the rear so that the room may be cleared and dances and other entertainments held that require large floor space. It is the intention to use the building not only as Conservative Club headquarters but also as a public hall. The building will have cost, when completed, about ^pU,000.00. Mr. J. W. McLean is the architect and the building is being erected by Mr. H. E. Watt of Dundarave. Officers of the club are Messrs. John Alexander, President and Mr. Todd, Secretary. The club now has about thirty members.†Four days later, another item in the same newspaper; "A West Vancouver item in these columns Friday last erroneously stated that Mr. John Alexander is President of the Conservative Association of that place. Mr. W. A. Thompson is President of the Association". WEST VAImGOUVER STRUCTURE - OPEIMING OF NEW CONSERVATIVE HALL On Jan. 2dth, 1913, the EXPRESS under the above headline, ran the following; "West Vancouver structure will be dedicated to the use of the public on Friday evening. Special ferry service for the event. Everyone interested in the progress of the Municipality of West Vancouver should make a dedicated effort to visit the region on Friday evening next, when an event of considerable importance and goodly significance is slated to take place. The occasion in question is the opening of the new Conservative Hall, and in order to facilitate the attendance of those many who will doubtless be interested in the event, it might be well to remember that the West Vancouver ferry DONCELIA leaves the Vancouver Wharf at 7:00 o'clock on that evening. The new hall, which is an imposing addition to the Municipality, is situated on Marine Drive, Dundarave, on a site especially chosen for the purpose. It is a frame building. The structure consists of a main hall with a kitchen, cloakrooms and all modern conveniences attached, xNjot only will the hall prove an asset to the Conservative Association itself, but it will also be a universal convenience to the municipality, providing, as it undoubtedly will, a venue for future events such as concerts, dances, socials, etc,, organized by other societies and lodges for vihom the hall will be available on application to the committee. Those who have been in charge of the arrangements attending the erection of this building have taken care to furnish it with a good dancing floor, and a commodious stage, in anticipation of occasions such as those mentioned above, A piano is on order, and steps have been taken to provide the hail with adequate seating accommodation for Friday next and onwards.
