To aid in this project, we applied for and received a $$,000.00 grant from New Horizons, a Federal agency that provides funding to keep seniors involved and active. These funds will be used for the purchase of two typewriters, photographic equipment and supplies, and a tape recorder for carrying out research interviews, Wd have also applied for and will receive a $5,000,00 grant from the B.C. Council of Archivists. These funds are to be used to hire a part-time archivist to train our member volunteers in the proper methods of preserving, cataloguing and filing archival material. Our commitment in receiving these grants is to provide volunteer workers to carry out the programs. We were involved in a number of activities relating to West Van's 75th anniversary. Community Day was very special with some of our original citizens riding in the parade in a string of antique cars. The Memory Cruise was a sellout and an enjoyable and profitable success. Our members sold $32 copies of Bruce Ramsey's book, "A Place of Excellence", with the bulk of the sales originating from our Tax Week display at the Municipal Hall. A number of our members are involved in research projects. To name a few - Navvy Jack, Scouting, Hollyburn Ridge, Banking, early logging ana the background of Keith Road and the first Capilano River crossing. we held 5 general meetings last year and the average attendance was 83. (People, not age.) Their success was due to a combination of interesting speakers, excellent refreshments and nostalgia. In addition to the aforementioned, our members were involved in preparing and manning displays, delivering newsletters, typing, phoning, filirig, bookkeeping and many other important activities. Our membership is growing; we are organized and performing well as an historical society; and most important, we are paying our billSo I wish to sincerely thank all of those people who donated pictures, scrap books, historic papers, photo albums, etc. These are all valuable additions to our archives, I also wish to express my sincere thanks to all of our members who have been part of helping our organization grow into what it is today - a first class Historical Society that we can be proud of, TREASURER'S REPORT As stated in the above report, we are 'paying our bills'.
