These donations of 55 years ago may seem a mite on the meagre side when com- pared to prizes dangled before today’s public - cars, Hawaiian vacations, week-ends at Harrison or "The Empress". But look at it this way. When "W.G." donated $.75 that money would have purchased a 3 lb block of butter and bear in mind, too, these were the "Dirty Thirties". When the Committee acknowledged in print "their generous donations", by any measure, they were absolutely right. AL-L ABOARD It is always gratifying when the Society acquires a new corporate member but last month when BC Rail accepted our invitation to Join, they did so with unusual grace. Mr. Barrie Wall, Manager Corporate Information not only gave the Society a special (and splendid !) 75th anniversary edition of their newsletter The Coupler, but also included an S page news release pertaining to the railway. Mr. Wall was particularly receptive to certain nostalgic passages in our solicitous letter and, with our ready consent, will include them in a future edition of The Coupler. Thank you BC Rail ..... and Happy Birthday THR WIl_l_ING WHIRRIN NALKRRS With the exception of apartment dwellers, members living in the core of West Van have their newsletters delivered to their doorsteps by Frank Whiff in’s army of willing walkers. We have 2© members in North Van but no home deliveries there, as yet. Initially, and ideally, each route was kept to a maximum of ten homes but the Society kepi growing at such a rate that some of the routes became over-burdened and Frank is now in the process of devising a more equitable schedule. The need for enlistees is URGENT. There are only six deliveries a year - 5 newsletters and 1 invoice or, to put that into a different perspective, six deliveries to ten holds at 36 postage each equals 6 x 1© x 36 = $21.60. the Society $21.6© annually. A bit of an eye opener, isn hoLise- Yes, each deliverer saves : it? If you enjoy walk- ing, this is the Job at 922-2170. for you. Contact the Willing Whiff in Walkers recruiting office
