noTicES OF moTion TO BE CONSIDERED AT THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ON 26 MARCH 1987. 1. MEMBERSHIP IN THE B.C.H.F. It will be moved that, effective 26 March 1987, the Society terminate its membership in the B.C. Historical Federation. A full explanation of the reason for this was given in the last issue of "Histrionics", but in essence it is that the Directors do not feel the Society can afford a membership fee of $450. Should the motion to withdraw pass at the Annual General Meeting, the following motion will be put: Should the membership fee to the B.C.H.F. be substantially reduced at the A.G.M. of that organization, to be held in Mission in May 1987, Be it resolved that the Society re-apply for membership . 2. REVISION OF THE BY-LAWS Be it resolved that the By-laws of the Society, now re-written in conformity with those of Schedule B of the Society Act, be accepted as the By-laws of the Society. Comments A study of Schedule B indicated areas in which our by-laws were incomplete. This does not mean we were doing anything wrong, only that what we were doing was not laid out in the by-laws as it should have been. Another flaw was that our by-laws were in some instances too restrictive. For example, we tried to spell out the number and times of meetings, when that should have been left to the discretion of the Directors. An important addition is the power to form committees to undertake much of the work of the Society. Inclusion of an enabling clause emphasizes the desire of the Directors to get more of the members involved in the day to day work of the Society Twenty copies of the new By-laws have been run off and are available for scrutiny. CELEBRflTinG HERITHGE WEEK in WEST VRnCOUVER Through the courtesy of the management of Park Royal, The Society was able to get a booth in the mall at Park Royal South to mount a display for Heritage Week - Monday to Saturday, 16 - 21 February 1987. From our collection, we were able to mount six panels of pictures from the very early days of the community, including a pictorial history of the Reid family and pictures of many of the old timers. Passers-by showed much interest in the display, which helped, we think, to make the Society known, Lucy Smith put in a lot of time arranging for members to act as receptionists at the booth so there was always some-one to explain things to those interested. All ten directors had a share in the display and were delighted at the number of members who turned out to help. Our thanks go out to: Nettie Borthwick; Mary Chapman; Laurence and Babs Coles; Barbara Gamage; Norma Hamilton; Muriel Johncox; Betty Kirk; Betty Metcalfe; Joan Palmer; Claire Rivers; Norma Sissons; Effie Sutherland; Jim Chapman; Leone Clyne; Matt and Marjorie Davis; Tom Hadwin; Mildred Hughes; Laurenn Jones; Sybil Mahon; Ross Minions; Cecily Reynolds; Kathleen Sinclair; Morva Summerfield; Brang Upham. communiTY dry display Our next big display will be at Community Day, the first Saturday in June. Inasmuch as this is the community's 75th anniversary, we would like to feature as many of the residents in 1912 as possible. For this of course, we need your help. Only you can dig into your own memorabilia, only you can contact the families of the early residents that you know for pictures and recollections. We will collect anything you care to bring along at the A.G.M. or at Room 4 before or after. Phone first to ensure that there will be somebody there.
